How to Assign Handicap Strokes on a Scorecard
For player's opting into competitive play, there are certain games that require Course Handicap strokes to be assigned on the scorecard. It's easy to do!
In order to assign handicap strokes correctly on your scorecard, you first need to determine your Course Handicap. This is not the same as your Handicap Index. The AGA GHIN app offers a very easy to utilize Course Handicap Calculator.
Assign Course Handicap strokes one-by-one in hardest-to-easiest hole order until you have assigned all of your Course Handicap strokes. The scorecard will indicate hole handicaps. It is important to utilize the handicap assigned to the ladies tees as these are different than the hole handicaps assigned to the mens tees. Strokes are notated with a dot in the upper righthand corner of the player's score box. These dots are informally referred to as "pops". In the event you have more than an 18 Course Handicap, you then will add the additional handicap strokes over 18 starting again with the most difficult (lowest handicap) hole. This would result in some holes being assigned two strokes. At Trilogy, our most difficult hole (#1 handicap) is hole #3 and our second most difficult hole is hole #13 (#2 handicap).
A player's Net Score is equal to the player's Gross Score minus the player's Course Handicap strokes.
